Exciting news for fans of the iconic action hero: Rambo is set to make a thrilling return with a new prequel project titled "John Rambo." This upcoming film is being helmed by Jalmari Helander, the acclaimed director behind the action-packed hits "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, the project is currently being launched by Millennium Media at the Cannes market, a premier event where film projects seeking funding and distribution partners are showcased to potential investors.

Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind successful franchises like the Expendables and Has Fallen series, previously produced the 2008 film "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood." The new film, "John Rambo," is set to explore the character's origins during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic "First Blood." While no casting details have been confirmed, it's noted that Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project but not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by the talented duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Production is slated to commence in Thailand in October, promising to bring the gritty atmosphere of the Vietnam War to life on screen.

Jalmari Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which transformed the concept of John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis, showcases his ability to handle high-octane, action-driven storytelling. This experience bodes well for his direction of the Rambo prequel, ensuring fans can expect a film filled with intense action and compelling narrative.
