Rumors are swirling about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 that could hit the market by the end of 2025. Additionally, there's talk of a next-gen upgrade for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. According to GameReactor, sources close to Rockstar have hinted that a Switch 2 version of this beloved Wild West adventure is in the works, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" designed to enhance the game on current-gen consoles. While specifics are still under wraps, these sources suggest that both the port and the upgrade could be available as soon as later this year.

These rumors align with reports from Nintenduo, which indicate that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might see a release within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. It remains to be seen whether this port will be available digitally-only or also come in a physical edition.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by critics, earning a perfect 10/10 score from IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review. The review praised it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

The prospect of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to the Switch 2 might not be too surprising, especially after Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for Nintendo's new platform during a recent Q&A with investors. Zelnick highlighted the improved support from Nintendo for third-party publishers, saying, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform." He noted that historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo ecosystem had its challenges, but he feels Nintendo has made significant strides in addressing these issues. Zelnick also mentioned that while they assess bringing titles to different platforms on a case-by-case basis, there are great opportunities in their catalog for potential releases.

Specifically, Take-Two plans to bring Civilization 7 on launch day (June 5), along with titles from the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (though specific games and release dates are unclear), and Borderlands 4 on September 12. These titles are not surprising, given that Take-Two already publishes these franchises on the Nintendo Switch. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that the door is open for additional releases from their back catalog, raising hopes for games like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch 2.
