Sonic Dream Team is receiving a major update, adding new levels featuring the popular Shadow the Hedgehog. This update, arriving just before the weekend, includes three brand new stages and a fresh mission type within the Adventure mode. These additions aim to further enhance Shadow's gameplay mechanics, originally introduced in December 2023.
Beyond the Shadow-focused content, the update also introduces a range of interactive objects, such as trampolines, phased platforms, and tightrope springs, adding new gameplay possibilities. Players can utilize Shadow's Chaos Shift abilities to purify the Dream and vanquish the Nightmares.
Shadow's recent resurgence in popularity, perhaps fueled by his voice actor, Keanu Reeves, coincides with a noticeable upswing in Sega's mobile game releases since the acquisition of Rovio in 2023. While Sonic Dream Team predates this acquisition, its success may have contributed to Sega's subsequent mobile game strategy.
This leads to anticipation for the upcoming Sonic Rumble, a battle royale-style multiplayer game representing a significant departure from the classic Sonic gameplay of Dream Team. Whether this bold new direction proves successful remains to be seen.
