Next month, a significant shakeup is coming to the PlayStation Plus library as 22 games are set to be removed, including fan favorites such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This move marks a notable change for subscribers, especially for those who enjoy these classic titles.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms. It offers a suite of features including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and exclusive discounts for members. A key benefit for Extra and Premium members is access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.
As highlighted by Push Square, the upcoming removal of 22 games from the PS Plus library on May 20 includes two high-profile first-party Sony PS3 titles, set to leave the PS Plus Premium library. This is particularly significant because Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the last resort for players to experience these games without owning a PS3 and the physical copies.

Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 were added to the PS Plus Premium library at the end of 2024, and their removal comes less than a year later. The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is known for its alternate history first-person shooter gameplay. Insomniac moved on from the series after releasing three titles on the PS3 to work on other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
While it's uncommon for Sony to remove first-party titles from its service, it's not unprecedented. The removal of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West in August 2024 was a shock to many, though those games were still available for purchase at the time. In contrast, once Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are removed, they will be inaccessible on modern consoles.
Notably, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service, alongside other titles. Another first-party PS4 game, InFamous: Second Son, is also set to leave PS Plus.
Insomniac's Resistance series has been inactive for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president, Ted Price, mentioned a significant effort to develop Resistance 4, but the project never moved forward. This mirrors the fate of other once-popular series like Guerrilla's Killzone.
