Sony Unveils 'Project Defiant': New PlayStation Fight Stick Launches in 2026

Authore: ZoeUpdate:Jul 09,2025

It’s 2025, and Sony PlayStation has officially entered the fight stick arena with its very own wireless fighting stick designed for both PS5 and PC.

According to Edwin Foo, VP of product development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, this new peripheral—internally referred to as [ttpp] — is built to offer players "greater flexibility to enjoy their favorite fighting games" across platforms. The controller supports ultra-low latency in wireless mode, whether connected to a PS5 or PC, while also offering a wired option for those who prefer a direct connection. This dual functionality ensures that competitive players can rely on fast, responsive input timing—crucial for executing precise combos and advanced techniques.

The design emphasizes ergonomics, featuring a custom-built "high-quality digital stick" engineered by Sony themselves. One standout feature is the toolless interchangeable restrictor gate system, which allows users to easily switch between square, circular, or octagonal gates based on personal preference or game requirements. These gates can be conveniently stored inside a dedicated compartment within the controller when not in use. Additionally, the package includes a sling-style carry case, making it easy to transport your stick safely to tournaments or gaming meetups.

While the hardware specs are impressive, details such as pricing and exact release date remain under wraps. Sony has only confirmed a 2026 release window, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more concrete information.

This launch comes at a strategic time for Sony, especially considering its collaboration with Arc System Works—the acclaimed studio behind the Guilty Gear series—on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a brand-new 4v4 Marvel fighting title also slated for a 2026 release. It’s possible both the game and the fight stick will debut around the same time, offering a tailored experience for fighting game enthusiasts.

Sony kicked off the summer gaming season in style, delivering a wave of exciting announcements during the 2025 PlayStation State of Play event. Among the highlights were reveals like 007 First Light, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and the long-awaited release date for Silent Hill f'.
