Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Authore: GabrielUpdate:Feb 27,2025

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.

Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users, even those with high-end hardware like RTX 4090 GPUs and the latest drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. One user reported the game becoming completely unplayable due to crashes every five minutes. Another described the game's performance as "rough," citing issues such as loading failures in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance problems. Several users have already requested refunds.

The primary issue seems to be frequent crashes related to the game's graphics driver, even on powerful PCs. A common error message points to outdated drivers, excessively high in-game settings, GPU overheating, or a game-related error.

PlayFurther complaints include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing features, extended loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio problems. Some players report performance stuttering after extended play sessions, eventually leading to crashes, suggesting a potential memory leak as the culprit.

Nixxes Software, the port developer, acknowledged the crash reports on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides. They also addressed a bug affecting photo-op missions, advising users to lower graphics settings or resolution if their frame rate drops below 20 FPS during these sequences. The company requested users experiencing persistent issues submit logs and crash dumps to aid in faster troubleshooting.
