Splatoon 4: Sequel Whispers Follow End of an Era

Nintendo has officially announced the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. While this marks a significant shift, the beloved shooter isn't being abandoned entirely. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon balance patches.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated by a retrospective video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio's final performance. Nintendo's farewell message was simple yet heartfelt: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

Splatoon 3's two-year run, coupled with the cessation of major development, has fueled intense speculation about a sequel. The possibility of Splatoon 4 is now a dominant conversation among fans.

Intriguingly, some players believe they've discovered potential easter eggs or even spoilers within the Grand Festival event, hinting at a new city setting in a future installment. Images of a futuristic metropolis have sparked debate, with some suggesting it's a glimpse of Splatoon 4's location, while others argue it's simply a variation of existing environments.

Although no official announcements regarding Splatoon 4 exist, rumors have been circulating for months, suggesting Nintendo has commenced development on a Switch sequel. The Grand Festival, serving as Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest, further strengthens the belief that a new entry in the series is imminent.

Following the pattern of previous Splatoon titles, the Final Fest's theme could foreshadow the direction of Splatoon 4. However, until Nintendo makes an official announcement, fans will have to remain patient.
