Split Fiction: More Surprises Unveiled
Laser Hell Conquered: A Trip to Hazelight Awaits
Split Fiction's successful launch last month continues to generate excitement, with the discovery of the brutally difficult "Laser Hell" secret stage. Defying the odds, Chinese streamers sharkOvO and E1uM4y not only completed this demanding challenge but also earned a unique reward: a trip to Hazelight Studios, courtesy of director Josef Fares himself.
Their BiliBili video showcases their triumph. Unlocking Laser Hell requires players to input a precise switch sequence on the Isolation level's elevator. Success reveals a laser-infested platforming gauntlet. Completing this earns players a congratulatory video from Fares, who admitted even many Hazelight developers struggled with the level. The video culminates in an invitation to visit the studio in Sweden. Fares subsequently confirmed this on Twitter (X) on March 19th, stating, "Congrats to "sharkOvO" and "E1uM4y" for finishing the secret challenge "Laser Hell" in #splitficton. VERY impressive! I will keep my promise and invite you both to Sweden for an early look of our next game. We´ll be in touch!"
Hazelight Studios: A New Game on the Horizon
In a March 17th interview on The Friends Per Second podcast, Fares discussed Hazelight's strong relationship with EA and revealed that development on their next game is underway. He described Split Fiction's reception as exceptionally positive, stating, "For me, personally, every time a game is out, I’m kind of done with it... This has been a bit extra special. I would say that it’s been the best-received game we have done, but to be honest, everybody is super happy, but I’m so fully-focused and excited on the next thing that we already have started."
While confirming active development, Fares remained tight-lipped about specifics, citing the early stage of the project. He did mention, however, that Hazelight's development cycle typically spans three to four years.
Regarding EA's involvement, Fares clarified, "EA is a supporter. We don’t pitch games to them. We say, ‘We’re going to do this.’ That’s it. They have zero...thing to say about what we’re doing next." He highlighted EA's respectful approach to Hazelight's creative freedom, contrasting it with experiences reported by other developers.
Split Fiction: First Update and 2 Million Sales Milestone
On March 17th, Split Fiction received its first update, addressing community-reported issues such as gameplay glitches, online multiplayer problems, and localization improvements.
Furthermore, Split Fiction achieved a remarkable sales milestone, surpassing 2 million copies sold within its first week of release. This surpasses the initial sales figures of Hazelight's previous hit, It Takes Two, which reached 1 million sales several weeks after launch.
