Square Enix Unveils Kingdom Hearts 4: Promises to Meet Fan Expectations

Authore: JulianUpdate:May 15,2025

Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and enthusiastic message on social media. Accompanied by a series of captivating images, the announcement leaves no room for speculation—Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed on its way.

Just a day prior, the company announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG intended for mobile devices. However, they seized the moment to reassure fans that the team remains "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.

"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the first of two posts declared. This message was accompanied by a collage of screenshots showcasing characters, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming elements, and a glimpse of a formidable enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post added. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first significant news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite the game being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained largely silent until now.

Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, begin to shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion.

Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
