Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Adds Playable Jar Jar Binks and More!
Aspyr has unveiled a surprising playable character for the upcoming re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles on modern consoles: Jar Jar Binks! A new trailer showcases the Gungan wielding a hefty staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only exciting addition. Aspyr has already revealed nine other new playable characters, with more promised before launch. The original 2000 release of Jedi Power Battles featured iconic characters and locations from The Phantom Menace, and this updated version aims to capitalize on that nostalgia with added content. Beyond new characters and customizable lightsaber colors, cheat codes are also making a comeback.
The Jar Jar Binks gameplay trailer shows the character engaging enemies with his staff and delivering his characteristically chaotic dialogue. While some might have hoped for a "Darth Jar Jar" twist, this version stays true to the original portrayal. Jar Jar will be playable from day one, January 23rd, and pre-orders are now open.
Newly Announced Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
Aspyr's commitment to expanding the roster is evident, with a diverse range of new characters including droids (Flame Droid, Destroyer Droid, Rifle Droid), and fan favorites like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian. The addition of multiple Gungans (Jar Jar and the Gungan Guard) adds further variety. With several more character reveals expected, the final roster promises to be quite extensive.
With the release just weeks away, fans can soon experience these additions firsthand. Aspyr's past work on re-releasing classic Star Wars games, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope for a well-executed and faithful update to Jedi Power Battles.
