There's no denying the thrill of a new Final Destination movie hitting the theaters, and fans are buzzing about the sixth installment, Final Destination: Bloodlines. The film wouldn't feel complete without the iconic presence of Tony Todd, the legendary actor best known for his chilling role as the original Candyman. In a poignant turn of events, Todd delivered an unscripted monologue in the movie, adding a deeply emotional layer to his final performance. Producer Craig Perry described Todd's appearance as "very bittersweet."
Perry shared insights with Deadline, reflecting on both the new film and his journey with the franchise, which began in 2000. He acknowledged Todd's health struggles, noting, "We all knew that he was obviously quite ill. And it was pretty clear that this was going to be the last role he would play in a movie, and the fact that it was one of the Final Destination movies made it that much more poignant."
Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein took a bold step during the filming of Todd's scene, opting for authenticity over scripted lines. As Perry explained, "Our directors, they made a very shrewd decision to take the last couple of lines that were scripted and said, ‘Tony, just, just say what you would want to say to the fans. What would you like to impart to them in this moment?’" This allowed Todd to speak directly to the camera, delivering a heartfelt message to the fans who have supported him throughout his career. Perry described the experience as "a very magical moment on set," one that left a lasting impact and will stay with him forever.
