Upcoming Sony-Published Game Drops PSN Requirement on PC

Lost Soul Aside: PSN Account Linking Requirement Removed for PC Release

Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's market reach, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously unsupported by PSN.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside is a product of PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony is publishing the game for both PS5 and PC, the initial implementation of mandatory PSN account linking for PC titles last year faced significant player backlash.

The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside was initially observed on the game's Steam page. While the page initially mentioned the PSN linking mandate, SteamDB records show this was removed within 24 hours of the game's December 2024 trailer release.

A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?

This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN account linking policy for a PC game, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of Sony's stance on the requirement for future PC releases. The decision likely aims to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales, especially considering the underwhelming PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the introduction of the PSN linking mandate (e.g., God of War Ragnarok). While the exact reasons remain undisclosed, the move clearly prioritizes broader accessibility for this highly anticipated title.
