SEGA is bringing the acclaimed Virtua Fighter franchise to Steam for the very first time with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, marking the fifth major iteration of the game. While a precise release date remains undisclosed, SEGA confirms a winter launch.

Despite its numerous predecessors, SEGA positions Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O as the definitive remaster of this classic 3D fighter. Key features include rollback netcode for smooth online gameplay, stunning 4K graphics with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps frame rate for unparalleled fluidity.

Returning fan-favorite modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus are joined by exciting additions: create custom online tournaments and leagues (up to 16 players), and utilize the new Spectator Mode to observe matches and learn advanced techniques.

The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, even for a fifth iteration. Many long-time fans expressed their excitement for the PC release, although some still eagerly await Virtua Fighter 6.

Initially Mistaken for Virtua Fighter 6

Earlier this month, an interview with VGC sparked speculation about a Virtua Fighter 6 announcement. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, mentioned several legacy titles in development, including another Virtua Fighter entry.

However, the November 22nd Steam listing for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O clarified the situation. This enhanced version, featuring upgraded visuals, new modes, and crucial rollback netcode, takes center stage.

A Classic Fighting Game Returns

Virtua Fighter 5 initially launched on SEGA's Lindbergh arcade platform in July 2006, later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The storyline follows the Fifth World Fighting Tournament, featuring J6 (Judgement 6) and its invitation to elite fighters. The original game boasted 17 characters, expanded to 19 in later versions, including Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
