Tencent Acquires Majority Stake in Kuro Games, Developer of Wuthering Waves
Tech giant Tencent has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the studio behind the popular mobile games Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. Tencent now holds a controlling 51.4% stake in Kuro Games, becoming the sole external shareholder.
This acquisition follows an initial investment made by Tencent in 2023. While Tencent now holds a majority stake, Kuro Games assures fans that it will maintain its operational independence. This model mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games and Supercell, emphasizing long-term growth and creative freedom. Tencent has yet to release an official statement regarding this development.
Kuro Games' success is undeniable. Both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves have each generated over $120 million in revenue and continue to receive regular updates. The latter game's popularity is further evidenced by its nomination for the Players' Voice award at The Game Awards. This acquisition promises a more stable financial future for Kuro Games, allowing them to continue developing high-quality games.
