Following the formation of Reburn—a new studio comprised of former 4A Games Ukraine developers—the original 4A Games has confirmed its ongoing commitment to the Metro franchise. This reassurance followed Reburn's announcement of their debut project, La Quimera, sparking speculation about the future of Metro.

In an official statement, 4A Games clarified its relationship with Reburn, offering congratulations on La Quimera while emphasizing its continued dedication to the Metro series. The statement explicitly stated: "We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games. Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception."
Beyond the next Metro game, 4A Games hinted at development on a completely new intellectual property (IP), although details remain confidential. The studio highlighted its Ukrainian roots and diverse team, noting that the majority of its 200+ employees (approximately 150) are based in Kyiv, with additional offices in Sliema, Malta, and remote workers.
Regarding the organizational split, 4A Games explained that after Metro Exodus and its DLC, they collaborated with 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Subsequently, 4A Games Limited was established in Kyiv, incorporating around 50 additional team members. Concurrently, 4A Games Ukraine pursued its independent path, culminating in the creation of Reburn and the announcement of La Quimera.
Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, fan anticipation for a sequel has grown amidst limited updates. While spin-offs and enhanced editions like the Enhanced Edition have maintained interest, the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic world is highly anticipated. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), 4A Games initially hinted at a new Metro title in 2019, suggesting a release within the "202X" timeframe, before becoming less communicative. Now, it appears that the wait may soon be over.
