To begin your romance with Caldarus, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. This requires offering four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Breaking the seal triggers a cutscene where the Mines Priestess demands the farmer's departure. Caldarus intervenes, transforming into his human form, bestowing the Dragon's Breath spell upon you before retreating to the Deep Woods. This transformation unlocks his romance questline. Use the Dragon's Breath spell to permanently reveal his temple on your map.
