Naturally, Elytra are found only in the End after defeating the Ender Dragon, specifically within End City ships. However, alternative acquisition methods exist for different game modes, detailed below.
Obtaining Elytra in Survival Mode
Pre-Flight Preparations:
Before venturing into the End, thorough preparation is crucial. Diamond or Netherite armor, ideally enchanted for enhanced protection, is essential. A well-enchanted sword and bow (consider Infinity or Power for the bow) are vital for dragon combat. Stockpile arrows or a crossbow with fireworks for effective ranged attacks. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling provide significant advantages. Carry ample food (golden apples are highly recommended) for emergency healing, and blocks to aid in reaching End Crystals. A carved pumpkin protects against Endermen aggression.

Accessing the End Portal:
Activating the End portal requires 12 Eyes of Ender, also used for Stronghold location. Each Eye of Ender needs Blaze Powder (from Blaze Rods dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses) and an Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen).
The crafting recipe for an Eye of Ender is shown below:

Locating the Stronghold:
Use Eyes of Ender to pinpoint the Stronghold's location. Throw an Eye of Ender; it will fly towards the Stronghold, stopping near its location. Prepare for a challenging descent into the Stronghold's dark labyrinths.

Conquering the Ender Dragon:
The dragon fight begins immediately. Prioritize destroying End Crystals to prevent the dragon's health regeneration. Use bows for ranged attacks and swords for close combat.

After defeating the dragon, an End Gateway portal appears. Throw an Ender Pearl to teleport to the End islands. Locate End City ships; these often contain Elytra within an Item Frame. Beware of Shulkers guarding the ships.
