At the Digital Dragons 2025 conference on May 20, Mike Pondsmith, the founder of R. Talsorian Games and a renowned game designer, provided exciting insights into the development of Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, Project Orion. Although Pondsmith's involvement in the upcoming game is less direct than with its predecessor, he remains actively engaged, reviewing scripts and offering feedback on new features. "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’" Pondsmith shared.

One of the most intriguing revelations was the introduction of a new city alongside Night City. Pondsmith described the new setting as feeling "more like Chicago gone wrong" rather than the Blade Runner-esque vibe of Night City. "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’," he enthused.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has been actively recruiting talent for Cyberpunk 2. A recent job listing for a Lead Encounter Designer highlights the ambition to create "memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players." The role involves collaborating with the systems design team to develop "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date," signaling a revolutionary approach to gameplay.

While details on Project Orion remain sparse, the combination of Pondsmith's insights and CDPR's ongoing efforts suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will enhance the series' renowned world-building and storytelling.

In other news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the optimization efforts for the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port. Available on CDPR’s website, these B-roll videos total around 37 minutes and demonstrate the game running on Nintendo’s upcoming handheld console.

Despite initial performance concerns reported during Nintendo Switch 2’s showcase events in New York and Paris, where frame drops were noted, CDPR remains optimistic. Tim Green, a CDPR engineer, told Game File on April 25, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
