Paradox Interactive has officially revealed Europa Universalis 5 as its next grand strategy title, following cryptic teasers released last week.
The publisher known for franchises like Cities: Skylines and Crusader Kings unveiled its latest historical strategy game through an expansive cinematic trailer. Developed by Spain-based Paradox Tinto (the studio maintaining Europa Universalis 4), the sequel currently lacks a release date but already has an active Steam page.
"Test your strategic mastery across five centuries of history in Europa Universalis 5, the newest installment of our acclaimed grand strategy series," Paradox announced. "Command the pillars of civilization through warfare, commerce, statecraft, and governance in our most expansive Europa Universalis experience yet. Guide hundreds of unique nations through an intricately simulated world unmatched in depth."
Paradox Tinto has spent over five years developing Europa Universalis 5 specifically for dedicated strategy enthusiasts. The studio incorporated player feedback gathered during "extensive public discussions" lasting more than a year, emphasizing community input helped shape what they call "the most comprehensive Europa Universalis title to date."
The historical campaign begins during the onset of the Hundred Years' War in 1337. Players navigating subsequent world events will encounter numerous innovations including:
- A redesigned global map employing accurate projection techniques
- Representation of hundreds of distinct societies
- Population-driven economic mechanics
- Enhanced production and trade networks
- Expanded infrastructure development
These systems aim to provide unprecedented freedom in nation-building, fulfilling Paradox's promise last week of an "ambitious" project (though observant fans anticipated the announcement).
