The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles, with renowned games like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. Now, the original Devil May Cry (DMC) could join this prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has expressed his interest in remaking it.

Originally conceived as Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry was released in 2001 after a significant shift in its core concept, leading Capcom to launch it as a new franchise. As we approach the 25th anniversary of its release, Kamiya has shared the personal story behind the game's creation. He revealed that a painful breakup in 2000 left him in a state of depression, which fueled the creation of DMC. This emotional experience became a driving force behind the game's dark and intense atmosphere.

Kamiya admits that he rarely replays his own games post-release, and DMC is no exception. However, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he is reminded of the game's age and its old-school design. If given the opportunity to remake DMC, Kamiya insists on building it from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.

While the idea of a DMC remake is not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya remains open to the possibility. He mentioned that he only develops ideas when a project is confirmed, stating, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya has shown interest in remaking another of his creations, Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans for the revival of these beloved titles in the near future.
