LEGO Enters the Gaming World with In-House Projects

LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand the company's digital footprint, venturing into the world of video game development. This expansion will involve both independently created titles and strategic partnerships. Christiansen stated, “We are confident that, as long as we operate under the LEGO brand, we aim to create experiences for children of all ages across both digital and physical platforms. Developing games internally is something we are actively pursuing.”

This strategic shift doesn't signal an end to LEGO's established practice of licensing its brand to external developers. Recent reports, such as Jason Schreier's announcement of a new LEGO game in development at TT Games (likely tied to a Warner Bros. franchise), support this continued collaboration model.

Currently, LEGO's most prominent foray into gaming is its successful partnership with Epic Games. Last year's introduction of a LEGO-themed mode in Fortnite proved incredibly popular, solidifying the brand's appeal within the gaming community.

The company also boasts a long-standing relationship with TT Games, the studio behind a beloved series of LEGO-themed adventure games spanning two decades. While new projects from TT Games have been relatively quiet recently, speculation points towards a new LEGO Harry Potter game, potentially inspired by the remarkable success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Further demonstrating LEGO's versatility in the gaming market is its collaboration with 2K Games on LEGO 2K Drive, a racing game released last year that received positive reception. This diverse range of partnerships and internal development efforts signals a significant and multifaceted commitment from LEGO to the gaming industry.
