Sydney Sweeney cast in Split Fiction movie adaptation

Sydney Sweeney has landed a lead role in the upcoming Split Fiction film adaptation. Following last month's reports about the Hazelight game getting the Hollywood treatment, the Euphoria star joins the project that's gaining serious momentum.

A Star-Studded Creative Team Forms

The adaptation of the beloved co-op adventure is assembling an impressive lineup. Jon M. Chu, fresh off his Wicked adaptation, is set to direct, while Deadpool & Wolverine scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick handle the screenplay. The big mystery remains whether Sweeney will portray rebellious Zoe or timid Mio - a casting decision still up in the air according to industry sources.

Story Kitchen, the production company behind successful video game adaptations, is currently shopping the package to major studios, anticipating fierce competition for the rights. Their track record includes the commercially successful Sonic films, suggesting this adaptation could be another winner.

From Gaming Phenomenon to Silver Screen

Split Fiction became an instant hit upon its March release, moving over two million copies in its first week alone. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is already confirmed as a launch title, further expanding its audience.

IGN praised the game as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure" in our 9/10 review, highlighting its "rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas." This inventive spirit presents both challenge and opportunity for the film adaptation.

The Hazelight universe continues expanding beyond gaming. It Takes Two, their previous title that sold 23 million copies, also has a movie in development - possibly starring Dwayne Johnson. Though these deals aren't finalized, Hollywood's current appetite for video game adaptations makes successful translations increasingly likely.

Meanwhile, Story Kitchen keeps building its gaming adaptation slate. Beyond Split Fiction, they're developing films based on Just Cause (with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto attached), Dredge, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs - plus a surprising live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.

As for Hazelight? The studio remains focused on gaming, already hinting at their next project while their existing titles conquer new mediums.
