In the world of gaming, rifts are rarely good news. However, Avid Games has embraced this concept wholeheartedly in Eerie Worlds, the highly anticipated sequel to Cards, the Universe and Everything. While fun and learning remain central, this tactical CCG shifts its focus to monsters – specifically, monsters emerging from rifts.
Avid Games has crafted a visually diverse roster of monsters, each inspired by real-world creatures from mythology and folklore. The game boasts an impressive range, encompassing Japanese Yokai (like Jikininki and Kuchisake-onna), Slavic creatures (such as Vodyanoy and Psoglav), and a host of others, including Bigfoot, Mothman, the Nandi Bear, and El Chupacabra. Each card features a detailed, researched description, enhancing both gameplay and educational value.
Eerie Worlds features four Alliances (Grimbald, Zerrofel, Rivin, and Synnig) and multiple Hordes, providing significant tactical depth through varying monster properties. Players build a "Grimoire," their personal monster collection, which can be upgraded by merging duplicate cards. The game launches with 160 basic cards, with more accessible through merging and further additions planned.
Two additional Hordes are slated for release in the coming months, ensuring Eerie Worlds offers ongoing challenges and replayability. Gameplay involves a nine-card deck (eight monsters, one world card) and nine 30-second turns filled with strategic mana management and synergy exploitation.
The game's complexity demands dedicated engagement, but the reward is a richly detailed and challenging experience. Eerie Worlds is available now for free on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
