Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now

Authore: VioletUpdate:Feb 20,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant weight to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.

PlayThe reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on a sensor inside the Joy-Cons, similar to those in computer mice. However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision uses ranging from enhanced PC-style game experiences (like Civilization) to innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.

While much about potential mouse support (and the purpose of a new Joy-Con button) remains unknown, we do have confirmed details: the system is officially named Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, and a new Mario Kart is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay tuned for comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 coverage.
