Star Wars Outlaws Gets More Bad Sales News

Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is facing significant challenges. Released in August 2024, the game, while initially receiving positive reviews, has underwhelmed in sales, falling short of Ubisoft's expectations. This underperformance led to a sharp drop in Ubisoft's stock price in September 2024.

Adding to the woes, reports indicate that Star Wars Outlaws is being outsold by 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. While precise sales figures remain unavailable, Star Wars Outlaws' European ranking at 47th best-selling game of 2024 further underscores its poor performance. Player feedback points to negative reactions towards the game's combat and stealth mechanics, issues that, despite post-launch updates, failed to significantly improve player satisfaction.

Several factors contribute to Jedi: Survivor's success over Outlaws. Jedi: Survivor is a highly anticipated sequel to the well-received Fallen Order, benefiting from established brand recognition and positive critical reception upon its April 2023 release. Further boosting its sales, an update expanding its availability to PS4 and Xbox One last year reignited player interest.

In contrast, Outlaws has struggled to gain traction. While Massive Entertainment continues to release updates and DLC, including the November 2024 release of "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card" featuring Lando Calrissian, and the upcoming Spring 2025 release of "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune" with Hondo Ohnaka, these efforts haven't been enough to reverse the game's disappointing sales trajectory. The game's underperformance raises concerns about the future of open-world Star Wars games and the overall financial health of Ubisoft.
