In a surprise reveal at yesterday's Xbox Game Showcase, Atlus finally confirmed the long-rumored remake of a beloved RPG: Persona 4 Revival. However, the brief 40-second teaser left a portion of the fanbase with mixed feelings.
Viewers raised concerns about the visual presentation, including the graphics, color palette, animation quality, and lighting. Another common complaint was the lack of concrete details, such as a release window or confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 port.
"The graphics look like a default Unreal Engine project, honestly," remarked one fan online. "It almost has a fan-made feel to it, no offense intended." Another user agreed, stating, "That was a highly underwhelming trailer."
Given that the remake's existence was one of gaming's worst-kept secrets, some speculated the teaser was hastily assembled merely to officially acknowledge the project is in development.
"This feels like a 'fine, here you go' kind of trailer," commented one observer. Another suggested, "It seems like they threw this together last-minute, especially after news broke about the original voice actors not returning. I can picture the devs scrambling to have marketing whip up a quick clip."
Following the reveal, P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada took to social media to address fans, assuring them that Atlus is fully committed to the future of the Persona series.
"We are thrilled to officially announce Persona 4 Revival. Further information will be shared at the appropriate time," Wada wrote. "Persona 4 is a truly special title for Atlus and for me personally. Over the years, it has grown into a rich universe with TV anime adaptations and titles like Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
"We are pouring all our passion and love into this project. We are confident it will feel fresh and exciting for both newcomers and longtime fans, and we eagerly await the day we can share it with everyone."

Wada added: "Furthermore, as a studio, we are actively laying the groundwork for the future evolution of the Persona series. We are working diligently to meet the high expectations of our global fanbase, and development is progressing steadily." He concluded by thanking fans for their ongoing support and teasing them to "stay tuned" for future announcements.
We awarded the original Persona 4 a 9/10 at launch, praising its significant improvements in dungeon crawling and social systems. The enhanced Persona 4 Golden version has since become the definitive way to play on modern platforms, though fans have long expressed disappointment that it's still not available on Nintendo Switch despite years of requests.
