Square Enix Unveils Killer Inn: A Team-Based Social Deduction Game at Summer Game Fest

During today’s Summer Game Fest showcase, Square Enix stepped into the spotlight to unveil a fresh and intriguing social deduction title—Killer Inn.

Developed by Tactics Studio, Killer Inn is a murder mystery game that pits players against each other in a thrilling battle of wits. The game divides players into two factions: lambs and wolves. All start together inside a sprawling mansion, unaware of each other's identities. The wolves’ objective is clear—they must eliminate all lambs. Meanwhile, the lambs must uncover the wolves' identities and stop their killing spree before it’s too late.

As players explore the mansion, they’ll discover chests and merchants scattered throughout the environment, offering survival tools, gear, and an array of weapons. Completing quests rewards players with tokens that can be spent to unlock superior chests and acquire better equipment. With more than 20 unique characters to choose from—each possessing distinct abilities that can be upgraded mid-match—players have access to a wide arsenal including guns, knives, and grenades to defend themselves or strike down opponents.

When a player is killed, a clue is left behind on their body—such as hair, skin, fingerprints, blood, or clothing. These clues help surviving players deduce the murderer’s identity. Fortunately, Killer Inn includes a built-in system to assist in your investigation, with UI indicators marking suspicious behavior so you can narrow down who the wolves might be.

Once a lamb identifies a wolf, it becomes their duty to eliminate the threat before more lives are lost. However, attacking another lamb while playing as one will result in automatic elimination—so reckless accusations aren't the way to go. The game also features safe zones monitored by staff members; if a wolf commits a murder within one of these areas, their identity is immediately revealed to all lambs.

In addition to eliminating all wolves, lambs have another path to victory: escape. A boat stationed at the harbor can be unlocked and used for evacuation, though coordinating its departure presents a significant challenge.

Looking ahead, Killer Inn is preparing for a closed beta launch on Steam in the near future. While no official release date has been announced yet, fans of deduction-based multiplayer games have plenty to look forward to.

Stay tuned for further updates and [ttpp] opportunities to get involved as development progresses.
