Switch 2 Worthy of Late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's Vision, Nvidia Says, Boasts 'Most Advanced Graphics Ever' for Portable Device

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has shared heartfelt praise for the Nintendo Switch 2, calling the upcoming console a true realization of the vision once championed by the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Iwata, who played a pivotal role in conceptualizing the original Switch before his passing in 2015, had long envisioned a hybrid gaming experience—powerful enough for console-quality gameplay, yet portable enough to be enjoyed anywhere.

In a newly released Creator's Voice video published by Nintendo, Huang revealed he had personally collaborated with Iwata on the ambitious idea of a hybrid console. Now, having partnered with Nintendo once again—this time on the custom chip powering the Switch 2—Huang described the new system as a milestone achievement: “the most advanced graphics ever in a mobile device” and “a new chapter worthy of Iwata-san's vision.”

“We've worked with Nintendo for more than a decade, united by a shared belief—that technology should serve creativity, and that joy is worth engineering for,” Huang said.

“I still remember the day Iwata-san shared his dream with us. He wanted to create something no one had seen before: a console powerful enough for big cinematic games, but small enough to take anywhere. It sounded impossible. But that vision became the original Nintendo Switch.”

Though Iwata passed away before seeing his creation launch, Huang emphasized that his legacy continues to inspire both Nintendo and Nvidia. “We lost Iwata-san before the launch, but his clarity, his purpose—it still drives our work every day,” he added. “Together, we poured everything into that system. The Nintendo Switch took over 500 engineer years at Nvidia. We rethought the entire stack—chip architecture, OS, APIs, game engines—so the magic could travel with you. The results speak for themselves: over 150 million consoles sold.”

With the Switch 2, Huang highlighted significant advancements, including support for ray tracing and HDR, marking it as the most visually capable portable gaming device to date—all while maintaining backwards compatibility with the majority of original Switch titles.

While Nintendo has yet to officially disclose the full technical specifications of the Switch 2, reports from Digital Foundry have already detailed much of its hardware. One notable concern involves GameChat, a new system-level feature said to have a “significant impact” on available system resources, raising some developer concerns about performance trade-offs.

“Switch 2 is more than a new console,” Huang concluded. “It's a new chapter worthy of Iwata-san's vision. To our friends at Nintendo, congratulations. We're honoured to be on this journey with you.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches this week on Thursday, June 5, and is expected to sell out immediately. In anticipation of overwhelming demand, Nintendo is reportedly shipping 'Out of Stock' signs to select retailers to reflect the console’s limited initial availability.

Meanwhile, IGN has gone hands-on with the Switch 2 and shared early insights. Their review notes that Mario Kart World's open-world design may not meet expectations—urging fans not to compare it to Forza Horizon. Additionally, the $10 mini-game collection Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour offers a fun but underwhelming experience that, for many, should have been included at no extra cost.
