The legendary creator of The Sims, Will Wright, recently appeared on Twitch to share exciting new details about Proxi - his upcoming AI-powered simulation game focused on personal memories. Here's everything we learned about this innovative project from Wright and his new studio!
Proxi: An Interactive Memory Experience
Delivering Personalized Gameplay
Will Wright has revealed fresh insights about Proxi, his ambitious AI life simulation game. Originally announced in 2018, the project remained quiet until Gallium Studios released a conceptual "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month. The game appears to be entering active development, as demonstrated by Wright's recent Twitch appearance with BreakthroughT1D to discuss the title's progress.
BreakthroughT1D represents the world's leading organization funding type 1 diabetes research and awareness campaigns. Their Twitch initiatives collaborate with gaming communities to support fundraising efforts. Through their Dev Diaries series, they interview developers about their creative processes while sometimes exploring personal connections to T1D. Wright's recent interview on the channel offered a perfect opportunity to discuss his iconic career, including The Sims and SimCity franchises.
During the stream, Wright elaborated on Proxi's central premise. The game is essentially "an AI life simulator built from your memories," where players input real-life experiences in paragraph form. The system then transforms these memories into animated scenes that can be customized using in-game assets. Each submitted memory (called a 'mem') trains your personalized AI while adding to your expanding 'mind world' - a 3D environment composed of interactive hexagonal spaces.
As the mind world grows, it begins populating with digital representations (Proxies) of your real-life relationships. Memories can be organized chronologically or thematically, then linked to specific Proxies to reflect who participated in each experience. Interestingly, these Proxies can even be exported to other gaming platforms like Minecraft and Roblox!
The game's core philosophy revolves around creating "magical connections with memories and bringing them to life." Wright emphasized his design shift toward personalization: "I've always believed that no designer ever went wrong by overestimating player narcissism." With good humor, he added: Logically, the more a game becomes about you, the more you'll enjoy it.
Proxi is currently featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements coming soon.
