Warner Bros. Games Shifts Focus to Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC

Warner Bros. Games is streamlining its interactive entertainment strategy by centering its efforts on four flagship franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.

According to a detailed report from Variety, this strategic realignment includes a leadership reshuffle but will not result in layoffs or executive departures. Instead, three prominent figures within Warner Bros. Games have been elevated to key positions as the division refocuses on its most successful intellectual properties.

Yves Lachance, previously head of Warner Bros. Games Montreal, has been named Senior Vice President, Development, overseeing games tied to the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones universes. Shaun Himmerick of NetherRealm Studios steps into the role of Senior Vice President, Development, where he will guide the ongoing development of titles based on Mortal Kombat and the DC Universe. Meanwhile, Steven Flenory, formerly with Warner Bros. Games New York, has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Central Tech & Services, responsible for managing game technology infrastructure, publishing tools, QA, customer support, and player research.

Global Streaming & Games CEO J.B. Perrette commented on the shift: “Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world, and we are optimizing our team structure to develop long-term franchise roadmaps to delight players and fans of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC games.”

This restructuring follows a turbulent start to 2025 for Warner Bros. Games. On January 23, it was announced that David Haddad would be stepping down after several high-profile setbacks, including the problematic launches of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus. Plans to shut down the latter followed just days later, and in February, WB Games confirmed the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. San Diego studios, along with the cancellation of its upcoming Wonder Woman title.

The current reorganization aligns with a broader strategic pivot outlined by Warner Bros. late last year. At the time, the studio acknowledged that its games business was “substantially underperforming its potential,” and committed to doubling down on proven franchises like Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC properties. In particular, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav highlighted the importance of Batman as a central figure in future DC game development.

These developments at Warner Bros. Games also reflect wider corporate shifts. Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans to split into two distinct entities: Global Networks and Streaming & Studios. On the streaming side, the platform Max will soon be rebranded back to HBO Max, signaling a return to brand clarity and legacy recognition.
