Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet seems to grant players far greater freedom than the studio's prior titles. Multiple sources indicate that the creators drew inspiration from Elden Ring, planning to incorporate similar open-world exploration mechanics.
According to journalist Ben Hanson, the game unfolds on a single vast planet where players will unravel the secrets of a lost civilization and encounter a new belief system—a core aspect of the narrative. While it’s uncertain how closely the project will align with a traditional open-world framework, the developers are clearly moving away from the linear design that defined their earlier games.
The Heretic Prophet marks the studio’s first project where the player ventures entirely alone—without companions or allies. Neil Druckmann notes that the team intends to evoke feelings of isolation within an uncharted universe, while also exploring themes of faith and religion in depth. Set in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria—isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over six centuries—the story follows bounty hunter Jordan Moon as she arrives to fulfill a contract.
Druckmann adds that the development drew influence from games like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island, which may mean fewer straightforward hints and a storytelling style that requires players to connect narrative pieces themselves.
The game was unveiled at TGA 2024 and currently has no confirmed release date.
