Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary, Seek Return to Yharnam Amidst No Sequel or Update

Authore: ZoeyUpdate:Mar 26,2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, and fans are commemorating the occasion with yet another "Return to Yharnam" community event. FromSoftware's iconic PlayStation 4 title, which launched on March 24, 2015, not only solidified the Japanese developer's reputation as one of the greatest in the industry but also garnered both critical and commercial success. This led many to anticipate a sequel or at least a remaster akin to the Dark Souls series. However, despite fans' continuous pleas, Sony has remained silent on any updates or sequels for *Bloodborne*, leaving the gaming community puzzled.

PlayEarlier this year, insights into this silence were shared by Shuhei Yoshida, a PlayStation legend, after his departure from Sony. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida presented his personal theory on the matter, emphasizing that it was not based on inside information. He stated, "Bloodborne has always been the most asked thing," and expressed confusion over the lack of even a simple update or remaster. Yoshida theorized that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of FromSoftware and creator of *Bloodborne*, might be reluctant to let others work on the game due to his deep personal attachment to it, despite his busy schedule with other successful projects.

Miyazaki's recent successes include the influential Dark Souls series and the mainstream hit Elden Ring, which has led to a multiplayer spin-off planned for this year. His post-Bloodborne career has been packed with directing Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring, keeping him engaged with multiple high-profile projects. Miyazaki has often sidestepped questions about Bloodborne, citing FromSoftware's lack of ownership over the IP. However, he did acknowledge in February last year that the game could benefit from a release on more modern hardware.

In the absence of official updates, the fan community has stepped in with modding efforts to enhance the Bloodborne experience. Yet, Sony has been vigilant in curbing these initiatives. For example, Lance McDonald, creator of a popular 60fps mod, was compelled to remove links to his patch following a DMCA takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment. Similarly, Lilith Walther, behind projects like Nightmare Kart and the Bloodborne PSX demake, faced copyright claims against her work.

Meanwhile, technological advancements in PS4 emulation, highlighted by Digital Foundry, have enabled fans to play Bloodborne at 60fps on PC. This breakthrough, however, might have prompted a more aggressive stance from Sony, though the company has not responded to inquiries on the matter.

As Bloodborne celebrates its 10th anniversary, the "Return to Yharnam" event encourages fans to dive back into the game, create new characters, and engage with the community through co-op and invasions. With no official word on a sequel or remaster, these community-driven events might be the closest fans get to revisiting the haunting streets of Yharnam.
