UK-based indie studio Bithell Games has laid off most of its full-time team shortly after releasing its time-loop action title Tron: Catalyst, citing unsuccessful attempts to secure another major development project.

Founder Mike Bithell confirmed today via social media that 11 employees were affected by the restructuring, leaving the studio's future direction uncertain.

"As we approached our latest game's launch, we realized we weren't exempt from the funding difficulties plaguing developers seeking partnerships in 2024-2025," Bithell explained. "We've prioritized transparency throughout this process and worked diligently to support departing staff with comprehensive severance packages."

The studio previously developed Tron: Identity, blending puzzle mechanics with visual novel storytelling as their first collaboration with Disney's sci-fi franchise.

Before its Tron projects, Bithell Games gained recognition for tactical RPG John Wick Hex, following early breakthroughs with critically acclaimed indies Thomas Was Alone and Volume.

"This was an extraordinary team of brilliant professionals," Bithell emphasized. "To any studios hiring: these individuals would make outstanding additions to your organization. We're happy to facilitate introductions."

"All currently available games and their ongoing support remain unaffected. We deeply appreciate our community's support and encourage following our team members' future endeavors. Bithell Games has always been shaped by our people - today, that group grows smaller."
